Instruction
I’ve been teaching kayaking for just about a decade. There’s nothing that I find more rewarding than introducing new kayakers to the sport. Many of the best days I’ve had on the river have been with my students.
This winter I’ll be writing an instructional book for whitewater kayaking. Nearly all instructional resources, books, videos and the like, are aimed at the perspective of a complete novice. This leaves the material presented quite lacking – they inform a prospective beginner everything about kayaking, rather than teach them how to kayak. I’ll be writing from the viewpoint of a professional instructor. This will give the reader a complete understanding of not only kayaking, but how students learn to kayak and how they can teach themselves the sport. Additionally, the book will provide intermediate to expert kayakers with the means to educate themselves on advanced paddling techniques developed in the last 10 years.
As I develop drafts for each section of this book, I’ll be placing them online for peer review and feedback from prospective kayakers. For now, this page will have links the instructional information I’ve created during the last few years. Any comments ya’ll have would be much appreciated.
